San Guido, Sassicaia, D.O.C. Bolgheri Sassicaia 2002 ****

Decanter - August 2005

The Sassicaia hallmarks shine through even in this difficult vintage: elegant, slightly closed on the nose, silky-smooth entry on the palate and compact tannins in the finish. Less berry fruit, more savoury mineral character but still lovely balance and good prospects for midterm. 2006 - 2010. £62.70 Arm.

Sassicaia 2002

Sassicaia-Bolgheri 18 Drink now - 2015

2004 Jancis Robinson,
Classic Supertuscans from great vintages

Very brisk, smooth, seductive nose. Smart, sweet, nose that convinces the taster, in the way of Bordeaux first growth, thay only the finest Frensh oak has been used. Gentle, winning texture but pretty expensive (£575 in bond per dozen from John Armit). Already a first and satisfying mouthful displaying mild, Lafite-like charm. There is a quality and vigour here and the wine should have a long life.

A good wine to counter 2002's reputation in Italy.
