Dormello

Dormello main house
Dormello is a 19 hectar estate on the shore of Lake Maggiore, in northern Italy. It was purchased in 1898 by Federico Tesio, and his wife donna Lydia Tesio to breed thoroughbreds.

Their quest, which was for a place with dry ground, a high level of humidity, and a temperate climate. Dormello's soil is well drained, perhaps because of its high sand content. At present it hosts seventeen mares.

Most mares go abroad to be covered and come back in late spring. The foals are weaned when they are six months old, they then go to Bolgheri to spend the winter, and come back to Dormello in May, to spend the summer. They start training in October - November in Bolgheri.
